This year we were ready to open on 04/04 but unfortunately Covid-19 planned it differently for us, and the whole world. Even now when I am writing this, I still can’t believe what is going on around the world.
We have a lot of questions, we are wondering how you are doing, we are wondering if you are all healthy, whether you work or not, how you spend the day during this time. Many questions and a lot of thoughts.
We could also notice that you are concerned about us because we receive daily e-mails with questions about how we are doing in Rhodes and what is going on in Greece and on the islands.
Fortunately, the Greek government handled this well from the beginning. At the end of February all carnival activities have been canceled and since 10/03 we have the ‘lockdown’.
Greece is one of the few European countries with few deaths, until today, only 101. There were only 3 people infected in Rhodes. There was no other choice for Greece to do this because Greece had very shallow resources with which to tackle a large outbreak. A decade of austerity saw its national healthcare expenses cut by three-quarters, which means very few intensive care units and doctors.
A part of this, Ioannis and myself, have a lot of questions about tourism and this new crisis for Greece. How will / can Greece survive this? Family, friends, acquaintances, neighbors … we all have to do with tourism and we all somehow work for the tourism industry.
We know that Greece cannot support us all with the tremendous loss. How is this supposed to happen?
This year we had some reservations, unfortunately we had to cancel the entire month of April. We have until now no news about May and June. Many thanks to ours guests that not everyone requested the deposit back, but to postpone it to another moment. Please support us and the whole country by not canceling your planned vacation! You can send us a private e-mail and inquire when we can postpone your vacation, maybe also next year. Of course we keep the hope high that we can open high season and we do not change the dates after June.
As you may know or have heard / seen, we make changes every year at the Auberge Kalopetri. We make the changes so that you have more comfort, it always remains attractive, everything looks fresh and clean, is better organized, … A large part of these changes are already invested from your deposit payments so that you enjoy your stay with us and load your batteries again.
It’s a strange feeling, the days are getting warmer on Rhodes and the summer feeling is starting, but there are nowhere rental cars driving around or tourists walking on the streets.
Personally, we are very busy and in action, we take care of the animals, clear closets, maintain the garden and STILL invent new works. Me, Ulrike, I have thrown myself completely into the milk industry, … I am currently making feta, haloumi, and have a lot of time to deal with the improvement of goatl cheese. Ioannis is daily occupied with the animals and they are now getting EXTRA attention… ❤️
You can follow us on Instagram or Facebook, from time to time we share a report or a picture.
Perhaps in this period tell your friends and acquaintances about your experience of Auberge Kalopetri, about the quiet place, the healthy air, the complete relaxation, maybe they don’t know yet … 😊
Otherwise we can no longer wait to serve you again and to welcome you, we hope soon … ❤️
Stay healthy and strong !!! 😊.
